Come and try day - Ballarat Municipal Brass Band

We are running 4 x 45minute sessions, pick one that suits you best! At each session you will be given a demo of each instrument followed by a chance to move around the band hall and try out ones that appeal to you under the supervision of our experienced players.

Our Development Band runs from 6:00-7:00 on Tuesday evenings and provides individual and group lessons for our beginners where they learn the basics of playing their instruments and reading music. Once they are confident they join in with the Development Band playing a range of fun, straightforward music, many of our senior band members sit in our development band to help our novices gain confidence . We provide instruments and for 2025 have waived our membership fee for our Development Band.

We are keen to recruit adult beginners as well as school age children and provide a safe and encouraging environment for building this wonderful skill.

As a brass band we use traditional brass band instruments such as trombones, cornets, tenor horns, baritones, flugel horns, euphoniums tubas, drum-kit and tuned percussion; so pick one and give it s go!
