About this Event
Join us for an unforgettable day of music-making as we rehearse and perform Joseph Haydn’s magnificent "Nelson" Mass under the inspiring direction of renowned conductor Ben England. Whether you are a seasoned choral singer or just starting out, this event promises to be a joyful and enriching experience for all.
Experience the exhilarating power of Haydn’s "Nelson" Mass, a vibrant and triumphant choral work composed in 1798. Officially titled Missa in Angustiis (Mass for Troubled Times), the piece earned its popular nickname after Admiral Nelson’s victory at the Battle of the Nile, which coincided with its early performances. The music is grand, dramatic, and full of energy, perfectly capturing the spirit of celebration and hope.
What You Can Expect:
1. Preparation Before the Event: As soon as you book your ticket, the musical journey begins! You’ll receive a comprehensive digital resource pack to help you prepare at your own pace. The pack includes:
- A digital score of the full "Nelson" Mass
- Line-by-line recorded teaching sessions for each voice part
- Learning tracks with your voice part louder than the rest of the choir, sung by professional singers
These resources are designed to support singers of all levels, whether you're learning the piece from scratch or brushing up on it.
2. A Day of Singing and Learning: On the day, Ben England will guide us through workshops that break down the music, offering expert tips on vocal technique and interpretation. You’ll be accompanied in these sessions by concert pianist Dr Ana England, and together we’ll work through key sections of the Mass, while enjoying the chance to improve your skills in a supportive, friendly environment. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet and connect with fellow singers throughout the day.
