About this Event
Hannah Judson is an internationally touring American/French singer-songwriter with a career that spans grunge-era Wicker Park, Chicago, and folk-rock café culture in Paris, France. She performs original indie folk-rock songs that draw her audience into lyrically potent narratives constructed with electric guitar and percussive vocals, live looping harmonies, and rhythmic layers. Hannah’s vocals are intimate, with a modern folk sound reminiscent of Aimee Mann, Lucinda Williams, and Nathalie Merchant. Noted as “the real deal” by UK’s country music Maverick Magazine and “with a style that channels Elliott Smith” by Indie Country FM radio, Hannah has appeared regularly in Paris, around Europe, and the US.
Her upcoming release Satellites Grace the Sky Like Tumbleweeds (Boneyard Records) was recorded by renowned producer and musician Carlos Canzani at Studio de la Source in the Ile de France, outside of Paris, and is a collection of songs that reflect the outcomes of mandatory withdraw, the effects of social distance, our arrival at where we are right now.
Hannah Judson is a risky, engaging songwriter, constructing ethereal environments where danger and love combat in free fall. With songwriting rooted in the narrative tradition of Leonard Cohen and Joan Baez and seamed with references to seminal artists like Liz Phair, Jill Sobule, and Neutral Milk Hotel, her delicate breathy clicks and pops create percussive tracks. Hannah Judson’s performance is warm, funny, quirky, and welcoming.
Hannah was active on the alternative music scene in Chicago that circled around the School of the Art Institute (where she studied painting and sound) and Wicker Park. In Chicago, she was a continuous member of folk, grunge, and alt/rock bands as the songwriter and lead vocalist. She produced and hosted GrrrlsRock events at Beat Kitchen and also produced The Hannah Judson Beat, a podcast of conversations with women in music. In 2014, she founded MUSEfest, an international event to support inspirational women in music, film and art. In 2018 she joined the roster on Boneyard Records in Sacramento, CA. She was also the Director of Music for the LA Fashion Film Festival (LAFFF). She has an MBA in music business from Berklee College of Music/SNHU. In France, she performs with Charlie Galunic on lead guitar and Brian Clevinger (Absynth creator) on bass, and in Chicago, her band is comprised of Jeff Phillips on bass and Leslie Santos on drums.
Hannah Judson is originally from Maine, lived for 18 years in the Paris Region of France, and is now based in Chicago.
