Join us at the Eubie Blake National Jazz Institute and Cultural Center for an evening celebrating the music and legacy of John Coltrane. Charles Funn and The Funn Band will perform selections from Coltrane's groundbreaking catalog, honoring one of the most influential artists in jazz history.
Honoring John Coltrane
One hundred years after his birth, John Coltrane's music continues to shape jazz around the world. Works such as Blue Train, Giant Steps, My Favorite Things, and A Love Supreme transformed the genre through innovation, technical mastery, and artistic vision.
Charles Funn & The Funn Band
Charles Funn is one of Baltimore's leading jazz musicians, educators, composers, and mentors. Throughout his career, he has preserved the jazz tradition while training and inspiring generations of musicians through performance and education.
The Funn Band is made up of accomplished jazz musicians, many of them alumni of Baltimore's historic Paul Laurence Dunbar High School who studied under Charles Funn for decades. Their shared musical foundation reflects the lasting impact of his mentorship and brings exceptional musicianship, improvisation, and ensemble chemistry to every performance.
Together, Charles Funn and The Funn Band celebrate Baltimore's jazz legacy while continuing to shape its future.
