Calling all future chemists!Did you know that there are so many amazing colours that can be created from plants?
Join us for a series of workshops to investigate natural dyes, inks and stains.
Be inspired by our medieval garden and the plants that were grown there in the past.
Try a new technique in every session!
These STEM workshops are funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry.
19 August 2024: Learn about how indigo and woad plants can be used to create brilliant blue fabric using oxidisation.
28 October 2024: Make your own paint brushes from natural materials. Use your new brush with plant-based inks. Discover what plants were used in medieval times to make inks.
17 February 2025: Learn about anthotype photography. Discover some of the first types of photography by creating prints from the sun and natural stains.
Further sessions on 7 April 2025, 27 May 2025, 11 August 2025 and 18 August 2025 will be available to book at a later date.
