About this Event
Colorado Spider Survey Training Workshop: This regional faunal survey of the spiders of Colorado was launched in May 1999. The purpose of the project is to gather baseline information about the biodiversity of this taxonomic group in the Rocky Mountain/Great Plains Region of Colorado. The information gathered in this survey will be used to document species distributions in ecosystems throughout the state, altitudinal variations in distributions, and species composition in urban areas. The information also can be used to document the extent to which habitat degradation is affecting these top invertebrate predators. During the 4.5 – 5 hour workshop, attendees will learn about spider biology and identification, will be trained in different collection and data management standards, and will get to go outside and try their hand at finding and collecting spiders! The project is led by Senior Curator of Invertebrate Zoology at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, Dr. Paula Cushing. Paula has been researching spiders and other arachnids for nearly 40 years.
This class is IN-PERSON and space is limited. Lunch provided.
