"Ce colloque propose de s’intéresser aux sociétés anciennes dont les sources textuelles sont limitées et pour lesquelles l’iconographie peut jouer un rôle fondamental dans leur appréhension. L’objectif de cette rencontre est de mettre en lumière les possibilités et les perspectives qu’offre l’iconographie mais également ses limites afin de définir comment et jusqu’à quel point il est possible de l’utiliser, seule ou en relation avec les vestiges archéologiques, pour nous éclairer sur les pratiques socio-culturelles qu’elle illustre."

"This symposium offers the opportunity to focus on ancient societies for which textual sources are limited and for which iconography can play a major role in their understanding. The aim of this meeting is to highlight the possibilities and perspectives that the iconographic approach can provide but also to consider its limits in order to establish how and to what extent it is possible to use iconography, alone or related to archaeological remains, to clarify the understanding of sociocultural practices."
