College Pioneer Cohort

At the intersection of innovation and faith lies Fresh Expressions—a movement that seeks to create new, vibrant forms of Christian community. Our mission is to connect this transformative work with existing campus ministries, reaching students in fresh and relevant ways. This is where we need you.

The College Pioneer Cohort is a 4-month training designed for Christians who are ready to venture into uncharted waters and break new ground in college ministry. Whether you’re a student, leader, or passionate follower of Christ, this cohort will equip you to create new expressions of Christian community—spaces where faith can be explored, shared, and lived out in ways that resonate with today’s college students.

• Learn how to connect with college students who are distant from traditional expressions of faith.
• Gain practical tools for building relationships that foster trust, curiosity, and deeper conversations about life and spirituality.
• Explore new models of ministry that break away from the status quo and embrace creativity, authenticity, and intentionality.
• Be part of a supportive community that is passionate about creating lasting change on college campuses.

You can expect to roll up your sleeves and try some things! This Cohort is not just about listening to teaching and taking notes—you will be encouraged to spend time every week in your community, applying the ideas that you’ve learned. You will also have the opportunity, the accountability, and encouragement that comes from sharing your experience with your peers.

The Virtual Cohort is conducted entirely online.

Mitch Marcello is the Director of Worship at First United Methodist Church in Williamsport, PA, founder and Director of Imago Innovation, and is Mission Strategist & Innovation Specialist with Fresh Expressions. Prior to these pursuits, he founded the Acts Network, a collection of fresh expressions of faith connected to his local church, working with leaders to explore the creation of Christian community where there is none. Understanding that we are called to create, he is passionate about helping unlock creative potential in individuals, teams, and churches, assisting Christian leaders to apply tools for innovation to mission and ministry. Mitch holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts and Artist Diploma from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Masters Degree in Creativity and Innovation from Drexel University.
