TERRELL, TX — October 12, 2025 — In 1845, when North Texas was still a wild sweep of prairie, a small band of settlers from Indiana arrived with their wagons, their families, and their faith. Led by War of 1812 veteran Captain John Jacob Beck, they pitched their tents on a hill known then as Beck’s Mound and began worshiping together in his home. Within three years, they had built their first meeting house—shared by Methodists, Presbyterians, Baptists, and Christians alike.Nearly two centuries later, that legacy of shared worship and community endures at College Mound United Methodist Church, one of the oldest congregations in Texas. On Sunday, October 12, 2025, the church will celebrate 180 Years of Faith with a full day of worship, fellowship, music, and remembrance.
The day’s events include:
• Worship Service – Led by Reverend Cassie Wade, Horizon Texas District Superintendent (11:00 a.m.–12:00 noon)
• Dinner on the Grounds – A cherished tradition; guests are invited to bring a covered dish (12:00–1:30 p.m.)
• Old-Time Singin’ – Community music-making; bring an instrument and join in (1:30–2:15 p.m.)
• Brush Arbor Revival – Led by Reverend Dr. Stan Copeland (2:15–3:15 p.m.)
• Commemorative Cemetery Ceremony – Honoring Citizens of the Republic of Texas and Veterans of the War of 1812 (3:15 p.m.)
