Pulitzer prize winner, Donald Margulies weaves a story that is both funny and emotionally gripping while capturing a relationship that most of us experience at some point in our lives, but rarely talk about. It is a searching look at the lives of a pair of writers, focusing on their friendship, ambitions, conflicts, rivalries and betrayals.

The Red Gate Revue Stage is located on Granville Island, a magical escape within the city loaded with restaurants and cafe's for pre or post theatre fun!

Jessie nominated Jennifer Fahrni returns to the stage as Ruth Steiner, a teacher and respected short story writer living in Greenwich Village, New York. Her student and protégée is Lisa Morrison is portrayed by up and coming talent Avery Crane. The play begins in the fall of 1990 and covers the six years when under the guidance of Ruth, Lisa journeys from insecure student to successful writer. In Collected Stories, Margulies layers trust, loyalty and mutual need into a complex web of circumstances. The play was Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Original Play, and a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 1997.

The show is Directed by film and television veteran Roman Podhora, and serving as Artistic Consultant is Leo life time achievement recipient and pioneer of Canadian theatre, Mel Tuck. Set Design by Glenn MacDonald.

This production is dedicated to the memory of actress and teacher, Karen Austin-Tuck.

ROMAN PODHORA, Director - Roman has worked in film and television steadily since graduating Studio 58 in the mid 80s. His latest work includes roles in The Good Doctor, The Shipment, Maid, Rice Boy Sleeps and a supporting role in the soon to be released Crate Escape staring Catherine Bell.

Credits also include plays at Gastown Actor Studio under the direction of Mel Tuck and loving support of Karen Austin Tuck. His last two plays were My Tom at Railtown Theatre and Dad in Dreamer Examines His Pillow at the PAL theatre.

Roman is honoured to be working with these two incredible talents in his directorial debut.

MEL TUCK, Artistic Consultant - Mel Tuck is a highly regarded pioneer of Canadian theatre, and an innovator in acting training technique and philosophy. In a career spanning over 55 years, he has performed in dozens of plays, founded 9 theatre companies and has directed over 300 shows across Canada. He headed Ryerson University drama department for 13 years and originated and ran the Gastown Actors Studio conservatory for 12 years. Mel also taught at the Banff Centre for Arts and periodically teaches at VanArts. He has received 2 ACTRA nominations, a Canadian Film Award nomination, a nomination and win from two film festivals and the Leo lifetime achievement award. Mel now teaches at Austin-Tuck Studios in Vancouver.

JENNIFER FAHRNI, Ruth - After too many years away, Jennifer regains her voice and returns to the stage in the role of Ruth Steiner. Nominated for her performances both in Canada and the US, some of Jennifer's favourite stage roles were Roberta in John Patrick Shanley’s Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, Eve in Don Nigro’s Genesis, Devra in Anne Farquhar’s Fag-Hag: The Love Stories, Colleen in Drew Hayden-Taylor’s AlterNatives, Theresa in Judith Thompson’s The Crackwalker, and opening concerts (in a very loud voice) for Irish/Canadian music legends, The Irish Rovers! Jennifer dedicates this show to four women who impacted her life and performances immeasurably, to Lynn, Karen, Sheila and Jean. They are no longer with us, but no doubt they will be present.

AVERY CRANE, Lisa - Avery is thrilled to be back in the theatre in her role as Lisa Morrison. She is known for her work on television network The CW in shows such as Batwoman & Kung Fu.

Her theatre work consists of Jessie award nominated show The Other Place as Laurel, Franky in Where Were Born, Val in Plunge, Jessica in Sunday On The Rocks and many more.
