About Natalia Garcia-Lee
Natalia Garcia-Lee is a multi-disciplinary visual artist with a focus on oil painting, collage, drawing and jewelry, who holds a BFA in sculpture from PRATT Institute, New York. Garcia-Lee's artwork explores the constructs of human behavior, the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of what humans do as a species. Her fascination with human nature stems from the constant realization that each individual is a single facet of a larger social system within which we are all required to navigate. The most compelling component of her research is what humans do collectively and how that manifests in the real world. For every series, Garcia-Lee attempts to comprehend and identify root causes of human behaviors that produce observable outcome. Although the causes and truths regarding human behavior are elusive, the endeavor is rich with possibilities for expression in multiple disciplines. Working in a series-based practice allows Garcia-Lee to divulge each concept from different points of view. She employs techniques from each medium resulting in varied mark making that are used interchangeably between paper, canvas, metals and found objects. In doing so, Garcia-Lee attempt to deconstruct the concepts of behavior through the process of abstraction.
