About this Event

Join The Parentless Club and Alanna Chelmick at Issues Magazine Shop for an evening of collage-making, connection, and creative play.

Inspired by our parents, created with love, and intertwined with memory, this collage night is an invitation to see where nostalgia takes us. Through cutting, layering, and pasting, we’ll explore memory, meaning, and imagination using a mix of contemporary and vintage materials, and everything in between.

Sometimes all it takes is a glue stick to get us talking. When we keep our hands busy, our hearts open. Come create something meaningful, surrounded by people who get it. Messy edges welcome. Come solo or bring a sibling, partner, or pal!

No experience is necessary and all supplies are provided.

About The Parentless Club

The Parentless Club is the club no one wants to be a part of, but if you’re in it, you’re not alone. It’s a space created by and for people who have lost a parent, centred on connection and shared experience. Through gatherings, workshops, and community events, we make room for grief and joy to sit at the same table—and for people to feel seen while they’re there.

Your host

Alanna Chelmick is a multi-disciplinary artist who creates with many mediums: paper, paint, makeup, textiles and the natural world. She is fuelled by nature and all its elements, animals on the ground to the sky, community care and connection. She finds joy in the smallest things and follows her intuition, moving around the world. Smiling at “strangers” is common. You will find her talking to birds, appreciating light and the way it dapples. Nearly thirty years ago, she was nicknamed Alanna of Love and it stuck. #whatwouldlovedonow @alanna_of_love

The Space

Issues Magazine Shop is an independent magazine retailer founded by Nicola Hamilton. Issues is a clubhouse, a gathering place for magazine lovers, and what we hope will be a catalyst for innovation, collaboration, and a new generation of independent media in Canada.
