Cold War Choir Practice- a talkback with Ro Reddick
About this Event
The Drama Book Shop presents, in association with Jay Michaels Global Communications,
Cold War Choir Practice- a talkback with Ro Reddick- A Talkback, signing and live podcast recording.
About the Book
It's twilight in Ronald Reagan's America and the specter of nuclear war hangs over the country -- but rent is still due on the 1st. In Cold War Choir Practice a young girl is embroiled in intrigue when her estranged uncle, a prominent Black conservative, brings his mysteriously ill wife home for the holidays. This darkly comedic play with music is a fugue of Reaganomics, espionage, roller disco, cults... and choir practice.
About the Playwright
Ro Reddick is a queer Black playwright, songwriter, and educator. She writes off-kilter comedies; the theme songs to your late capitalist nightmares. Her play Cold War Choir Practice is the winner of the 2026 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. It premiered in Clubbed Thumb’s Summerworks ‘25 (NYT Critic’s Pick, dir. Knud Adams), co-produced by Page 73 and was later remounted in 2026 (co-produced by the aforementioned and MCC). Ro is the recipient of the Vineyard Theatre’s Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, winner of the John Gassner Award for New American Play and the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Play. She is currently an Audrey Resident at New Georges. Ro has an MFA in Playwriting from Brown University.
