It's summer in the city and we're keeping it cool by heading downstairs for our July edition of Cold Reads/Cold Brews - reading a hot play from Thailand!
As we continue our search for a new permanent home, this July, we're gathering in the Snug Room at College Inn Pub in the U District! One thing that hasn't changed: this reading series is Free to attend! And, as always, readers will be selected from those in attendance.
Grab a pint, and join us July 8 at 7pm as we read "The Night of the Minotaur" by Tew Bunnag!
A play about power and keeping it contained. A play about what happens when man is treated as a beast. A play that puts a modern twist on a classic tale, and that makes us question who is a hero and who a villain.
Tew Bunnag was born in Bangkok in 1947. He studied Chinese and Economics at Cambridge University. His works have been translated into Spanish and Greek. He now resides in Spain with his wife. His grown children live in Italy and Thailand, so he spends much of his time divided between Europe and Asia. He is the head of The Human Development Foundation Mercy Center, which he runs in Bangkok. When in Spain, he runs workshops on Death and Dying as part of the Palliative Care Movement.
What is Cold Reads/Cold Brews?
It's a monthly gathering of people interested in reading plays while quaffing a beverage of choice at a local public house. It is also a way that Latitude Theatre brings our programming out into the public of Seattle. And it's FREE!
Read and/or watch. Roles will be filled by those in attendance.
Come join us on Wednesday July 8 at 7pm at College Inn Pub (4006 University Way NE, Seattle, WA). Come down the stairs and, once you're in the pub, basically pull a U-turn and you'll find us in the Snug Room at the back.
We'll gather, read plays, talk about plays, sip a beer (or other tasty drink), have some laughs, have some nachos, and in the end, we have fun together, while experiencing life through the words of playwrights from all over the world.
Note about The College Inn Pub: for this month only, we are in a location on the National Historic Register which does not have an elevator and is only accessible via stairs. We apologize if this presents a barrier to your attendance and plan to be back at ground level in August.
