Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP)

Who is this course for?

For registered health professionals, this live training offers an opportunity for occupational therapists and physiotherapists working with adults and children (OVER 4 YEARS of age) with neurological or developmental conditions to learn the CO-OP Approach.

What does CO-OP do?

CO-OP enables skill acquisition, problem solving and generalization and transfer of skills to the real world in a variety of rehabilitation populations, including developmental coordination disorder, autism, acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy, dystonia and stroke.

When does it run?

18th and 19th July 2024 (2 full days face to face training) with follow-up consolidation sessions running on-line (ZOOM) 27th November 2024. You will attend one half-day session on the 27th to present a case where you have used the CO-OP approach, this session will be on-line.

To complete the training and receive an attendance certificate participants must attend both full days in July and half-day consolidation day session. If you are unable to attend the consolidation session a later session can be attended but this will incur an additional £25 admin cost.

Dr Hortensia Gimeno Associate Director for Therapies (Research) Barts Health NHS Trust, is an Occupational therapist and active researcher with a background in community paediatrics.

Anne Corbett MSc DipCOT has over 25 years experience as a children's occupational therapist and NHS manager of community therapy services and is also an Associate of Better Communication CIC.

In this training you will learn:

• The rationale for using for using cognitive task orientated approaches
• The evidence for CO-OP
• The seven key features of CO-OP including dynamic performance analysis, guided discovery, and cognitive strategy use.

and experience:

• The use of dynamic performance analysis
• The use of global and domain specific strategies
• The use of guided discovery
• An evidence-based framework for practice

The second stage is a consolidation session that occurs on-line 27th November 2024. After practicing CO-OP in your own clinical setting, you will return to join a small group half-day session to present a case study, discuss successes and challenges with implementing CO-OP, and have an opportunity for further practice of the areas presenting the greatest challenge
