About this Event
This 3-day workshop is designed for school-based providers to address mental health concerns of youth. Participants will be exposed to the fundamentals of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) for working with youth who present with a range of emotional and behavioral problems in a school setting.
This workshop will introduce the essential elements of CBT, including the cognitive model, case conceptualization, treatment planning, session structure, empirical focus, guided discovery, and relational skills. The remainder of the workshop is an exploration of six flexible modules that comprise the heart of CBT with youth: assessment, psychoeducation, self-monitoring, behavioral strategies, cognitive strategies, and exposure/experiments. Each of the modules will be presented in the context of school settings, typical challenges, and application. We will also explore common issues presenting in schools, including working with parents, anxiety, trauma, and emotional and behavioral dysregulation.
At the conclusion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Describe key components of the cognitive model.
- Conceptualize youth problems using a CBT framework.
- Develop effective adaptations of CBT for school settings.
- Use core modules to plan evidence-based interventions for school settings.
Who should register:
This training is ONLY available to school-based behavioral health providers (social workers, school psychologists, community-based organization clinicians, counselors, Department of Behavioral Health school-based clinicians) placed at DC public and public charter schools.
Registrants who are not eligible school-based providers will have their registrations canceled.
