Increasing Producer Visibility to Improve Their Economic Viability
About this Event

How is increasing visibility a key tenet to pursuing representational, social, and economic justice for coffee producers?

The Coffee Coalition for Racial Equity (CCRE) proudly presents a public talk featuring Brian Gaffney, a specialty coffee advocate and consumer known more widely as @coffee_adjacent on social media. Gaffney will lead visitors in a dialogue and tasting experience that helps amplify how the conditions and concerns of coffee farmers relate to our personal cup of coffee.

This is a conversation for visitors of all experience levels with coffee, and is intended to be fun, information, and experiential. This event is free and open to the public.

About the CCRE:

The Coffee Coalition for Racial Equity (CCRE) is an organization formed to take on the challenge of racial equity in the coffee industry. It was founded in 2020 as a non-profit organization with a mission to build a more racially diverse and equitable coffee industry where talents are recognized and developed to the fullest potential and rewarded. The organization achieves its mission by building pathways that help advance Black individuals working in coffee beyond retail. It builds its programs through an inclusive framework with everyone at the table, seeking to share in knowledge and resources. The programs include partnerships that provide internships, mentorships, and educational scholarships.

More About Brian Gaffney:

Brian Gaffney is a Brooklyn-based specialty coffee consumer and coffee fandom advocate. His enthusiasm for coffee extends beyond the brewed beverage to the people responsible for producing, procuring, and preparing coffees the industry submits as specialty. As a home barista committed to sourcing coffees from his favorite producers, regardless of their roasters’ geographies, Brian counts himself part of specialty coffee’s crew and is passionate about the recognition and representation of all of his co-laborers, starting with the farmers. For Brian, who considers coffee preparation more ritual than routine, fervor often spills from his mug onto the pages of coffee publications and as discussion topics within his local and virtual coffee communities. His leading question when meeting fellow coffee lovers is “...who are you drinking?” as a means of centering the identities and brands of specialty coffee’s producers. He'd love for you to share with him on social media at @coffee_adjacent.
