This isn’t a panel or a presentation. It’s a conversation.
Every second Thursday, we meet at a local café to listen, connect, and learn directly from Detroiters. Whether you have a specific issue you want help with, a story idea, or just want to stay informed — this space is for you.
People stop by for all kinds of reasons:
- To get help navigating city services or challenges they’re facing
- To share what’s happening on their block
- To meet neighbors and connect with our reporters
Or just to grab a coffee and say hello ☕️
You don’t need to stay long — even 10 minutes is enough to be part of the conversation.
We started Coffee Thursdays in 2023 with just a few people stopping in. Since then, it’s grown into a monthly ritual we look forward to — and a space shaped entirely by the people who show up.

What to expect
Coffee Thursday is a casual, conversational gathering hosted by members of the Outlier Media team.
Join us from 9:30–10:30 a.m. every second Thursday of the month at a different coffee shop around the city. When you arrive, you’ll be able to order a free drink of your choosing, then mingle with other attendees and any Outlier team members who are on site that month. This month we'll be hanging around a bit longer!
There’s no formal program or presentation — just a relaxed opportunity to meet people, ask questions, share what’s on your mind and connect over coffee.
Please note: not every Outlier staff member attends every Coffee Thursday. If you’re hoping to meet with a specific team member, we recommend reaching out ahead of time to confirm whether they’ll be there. You can find our contact information on our website.
