Join us for a casual conversation exploring current exhibitions, led by Virginia MOCA staff and guest lecturers!Coffee will be served at 10:30 AM and the gallery talk will begin at 11 AM.
This month we will be joined by exhibiting artist Will Smith and Todd Walker, executive director of Judeo-Christian Outreach Center, who will discuss their collaboration and the culminating work of art featured in our exhibition More Than Shelter.
ABOUT WILL SMITH
Will Smith is a documentary-style filmmaker and photographer based in Virginia Beach. Smith is heavily influenced by the early years of his life in Virginia Beach. The city that exposed him to so many walks of life also exposed him to deep-rooted issues of the past. This conflict eventually drove him to leave the home he always knew. Smith returned to Virginia Beach in 2013. He reached a crossroads in his life and decided to fully pursue working with his camera.
Smith started documenting everyday life around him and noticed home didn't feel like it once did. The spaces and places where random and unique memories were created were gone—erased and redeveloped. This inspired him to use his photography to document the ever-changing landscape of his home. He began crafting stories about locals and tapping into the conflicts they overcome on their journeys. The purpose behind Smith's work is to document wherever he goes—the spaces, places, people, and moments the world may never choose to remember.

Judeo-Christian Outreach Center is a non-profit organization based in Virginia Beach that seeks to empower homeless families, individuals, and veterans to recover from crisis situations and return to being self-supporting, productive, and independent members of our community.
