Twenty of the best nurseries from across the Southwest are busy growing beautiful plants, especially for the first-ever Coates Plant Fair at Stoke St Gregory. If you need plants to refresh your garden or are a plant-aholic looking for special treasures you will find whatever you are looking for.
Not only organic vegetables and herbs for the garden or allotment, but seasonal alpines, perennials, and beautiful shrubs. If you are looking for something different, there will be cactus and succulent specialists and many of the nurseries have a strong emphasis on plants that encourage and support wildlife.
In addition to the top-quality plants, there will be artisan metalworkers selling garden art and plant support.
A visit to Coates is always full of interest, with the Museum showing the history and the process of willow production, including the Withy Beds.
You can explore the site with three signposted walks from the Centre, varying in length from 1km to 3.25km, pick up a leaflet from the Willow Shop. The easiest and shortest walk is the Woodland Trail, a Reduced Mobility Access trail leading down to the river and back, with an optional loop through a 3-hectare stand of native broadleaf trees including ash, oak, whitebeam, hazel, walnut, and cherry.
And of course, the attractive Coates willow products will be on sale in the newly refurbished Willow Shop, and you will be able to browse the other shops on site. You can follow all this with a well-earned coffee and a cake from the excellent Lemon Tree café.
