Join us for the second event of our 2024 Reading in Nature series! This month we welcome local author Erica Bradshaw to read their nature-based children's book, Their Home, Our Landfill. Reading in Nature is a CNP Signature Early Learning Program where Playscapers take in a nature-based story written and read by a local author followed by an activity that connects the book to the physical space of the Playscape. Through this experience, Playscapers grow literacy skills, their relationship with the natural world, and their understanding of the local authors, artists, and thinkers who make Mother Nature even more accessible for all.
Families are encouraged to bring towels and blankets to sit on during the reading. The first 30 CNP Zone families who enter the Playscape will receive a FREE copy of the book. Any books remaining will be distributed to families residing outside The CNP Zone.
This event is FREE to attend and no registration is required. We do gently suggest a $5 donation for families who reside outside of The CNP Zone (the 10-block radius surrounding the Playscape) to help sustain this program. No one will be prompted to donate and no one will be turned away. Donations can be left in the donation box at the Welcome Table.

Receiving a bachelor's degree from Kendall College of Art and Design '21, Erica is focused on building their career making art that educates and inspires conversation. Erica’s work has reached collectors around the world, been featured in juried shows across Michigan, and throughout various murals, public art installations, and commissions. They recently wrote, illustrated and published their second children's book “Alphabet of Amphibians; an illustrated field guide.”
"Look closely, seek out wonder and cultivate curiosity." Erica hopes that through their artwork, people of all ages and backgrounds can embrace their inner child. A passion for learning no matter your age is what inspires natural science to marry with picture book illustration.
