CMSS Joint Public Lecture - Interfaith Dialogue and Global Peace

Understanding and acceptance of cultural and religious diversity are essential in building a harmonious and peaceful world. A respectful attempt to overcome fear, hostility, conflict and violence begins with interfaith dialogue and understanding. To enhance transformative power of interfaith engagement, structured initiatives aimed at fostering religious harmony and global peace are being initiated by Parliament of World’s religions. Organisations such as King Abdullah bin Aziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) as well as United Nations Alliance of Civilisations (UNAOC) are examples of such efforts. Drawing upon his knowledge and experience, Swami Sarvapriyanandaji will highlight why continuing interfaith engagement is vital for global peace and harmony in the 21st century. He will specifically examine how Vedantic pathways can mitigate polarisation of stereotyping and create cooperative human concern for the wellbeing of future generations.
Swami Sarvapriyananda is a monk of the Ramakrishna Order and the minister and spiritual leader of the Vedanta Society of New York, where he teaches the nondual philosophy of Advaita Vedanta in the lineage of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda. Widely respected for his clarity and depth, he speaks across diverse audiences—from spiritual communities and interfaith forums to universities and interdisciplinary gatherings focused on consciousness, philosophy of mind, and the human search for meaning. He is renowned for weaving classical Vedantic texts with contemporary questions about identity, ethics, suffering, attention, and the nature of experience.
Swami Sarvapriyananda’s work brings nondual Vedanta into sustained conversation with contemporary philosophy, science, and cultural discourse, without diluting the integrity of either domain. He regularly participates in interreligious and cultural forums where intellectual depth and mutual understanding are essential. His recent engagements include programs connected with the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, the landmark Vatican II declaration on relations between the Catholic Church and non-Christian religions.
