This October, Chamber Music New Zealand is proud to tour Aotearoa's own NZTrio (Amalia Hall - violin, Somi Kim - piano, Matthias Balzat - cello) and Australian soprano Emma Pearson in Four Last Songs, a concert reflecting on the nature of goodbyes, endings, and renewals.Named for Strauss' Four Last Songs which he wrote towards the end of his life — now arranged for piano trio and soprano — the songs reflect on the serene acceptance of mortality and a closeness with nature.
The concert also features Salina Fisher's Kintsugi, about the Japanese art of putting broken ceramics back together with gold and celebrating the beauty of a life not unmarred by difficulty, but made more beautiful by the resilience of overcoming hardship.
