Join us for an engaging discussion with Sherita Johnson, Cheryl Jenkins, and Rebecca Tuuri, authors of Mixing: Race, Higher Education, and the Case of Clyde Kennard.
At 6 p.m. on Monday, October 19, these distinguished scholars will explore the story of Clyde Kennard, a Black Korean War veteran who challenged racial segregation in the 1950s through his efforts to enroll at the then-all-White Mississippi Southern College, now the University of Southern Mississippi.
Through their research, the authors examine Kennard’s courageous pursuit of educational equality and the broader struggle to desegregate higher education in Mississippi.
📅 Date: Monday, October 19
🕕 Time: 6 p.m.
📍 Location: Eureka School, 410 East 6th Street
The lecture series concludes Tuesday, October 20, with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and a lecture at 6:30 p.m. at The University of Southern Mississippi’s Thad Cochran Center, Joe Paul Theater.
Both events are free and open to the public.
Be part of this important conversation about history, civil rights, and the enduring pursuit of educational equality. We hope to see you there!
