Club Malibu: A Grand Theft Auto Soundtrack Celebration
About this Event
I had never heard "Nothin' But A G Thang" until I played Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.
I never even played San Andreas until like 2008. I grew up in a conservative Christian household and GTA games weren't just extremely forbidden, they scared me. I remember the look of concern on my dad's face when I played GTA III for the first time at a friend of his' house, I had slipped away to hang out with his dad friend's son and he showed me. I think we had a serious talk on the drive home about it.
But hearing Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg while crusing in a low rider through the streets of Los Santos changed me forever. Since then, to me, Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto series has always been about the music first, game second.
With GTA IV right there on the horizon I think now is the time to celebrate that legacy of sound. I, DJ Holiday Kirk, will be bringing to The Virgil not just a collection of music but radio interludes, commercials, visuals, cutscenes and more from the series. A carefully composed setlist that spans the full range of games (from at least GTA III on but I'll see what's in those first couple too) selecting the choice bangers from each (I'm going to drop "Hood Gone Love It" like a BOMB) to create a one-of-a-kind experience.
