About this Event
We are back with another clothes swap hosted by Bay Area queer artist Criibaby at the SF LGBT Center on December 4. Clear out your closets and join us for a free clothes swap, queer art gallery sale, sweet treats, and laid-back music!
This winter season, we are celebrating the Holi-Gays alongside chosen family with a clothing swap and a queer art gallery sale. Come find a new treasure and a new friend, and bask in the glow of community!
WHAT TO BRING: 1-2 bags of gently used clothes to swap (any season, any style, any gender!)
This is a multi-faceted event offering a little something for everyone. Here’s what you can expect:
- A free clothes swap (please bring 1-2 bags of gently used clothes: any season, any size, any gender expression!)
- Queer Art Gallery Sale: see some amazing LGBTQ+ art on display and shop our gallery!
- Free warm tea & treats (this is an alcohol-free event!)
- Queer community hang/opportunity to meet new people in a relaxed, low-pressure environment!
Come with an open heart and a bag of clothes to donate, and leave with a new treasure and a new friend. There's nothing like the bouncy, bubbly feeling of spending time in community. Don't miss this!
ABOUT THE ARTIST: As queer people, we often find solace in the worlds we build- for us, by us. So when rising queer artist Criibaby thought, “What would gender-neutral music sound like?” she knew: they had to create it.
Using a unique songwriting method she describes as possessing “no names, no genders, only the feelings, only the bare truths,” Criibaby’s lyrics contain no binary pronouns. Criibaby's lyrics intentionally leave room for interpretation, allowing anyone to picture themselves as the main character in each story. This means never defining pronouns or specific names, only sharing universal feelings and relatable truths, in a conscious effort to create more inclusive music. This songwriting approach expresses the nuance of queerness from their perspective, in turn helping Criibaby become the representation they were seeking while questioning their own identity. “I couldn't find any soft queer fairy tales when I was growing up, so I wrote my own.”
Drawing inspiration from artists like Phoebe Bridgers, Portishead, Clairo, and Radiohead, Criibaby asks, “What is holding you back from healing?” and tries to untangle the fragile beauty of yearning for human connection with her delicate, emotional vocals. Their debut album, , just hit the shelves this fall. It’s a therapeutic album of letting go, moving forward, and remembering you are worthy of love. It’s about practicing and encouraging gentleness through both human connection and self-discovery.
