Coming of age tales are not always neatly packaged for teens and college age graduates stuck between their childhood fantasies and the harsh realities of adulthood. For many Millennials, graduating college didn’t mean going off and immediately starting the journey towards the dream job, it meant moving back in with their parents and taking the first part time job offered to get by. In DEFINITION PLEASE, Monica (played by writer and director Sujata Day) is living at home with her mother, tutoring children around her old neighborhood for the Scribbs National Spelling Bee, until one day she is disrupted by a surprise visit from her brother. Day’s directorial debut aptly tackles the Millennial malaise, while also delicately building a genuine family drama that emphasizes the importance of understanding. — Jenny Nulf, Programs Director
