Learn this ancient technique to make a beautifully finished piece of cloisonné jewelry in this two day class! Students will learn to apply transparent vitreous enamel on fine silver. Techniques covered will be filing, heating the silver (flashing), doming, wire forming, wet packing, sifting, and grinding enamel, and kiln use. Beginner level is accepted, using a predetermined design by the instructor. Students with experience may submit their own design and discuss it with the instructor through email 10 days before class start. Each student will have a completed project by the end of class. Students taking the Metalsmithing 2 class will have an opportunity to bezel set their enamels in a finished piece.
Materials Needed: Students should bring paper, pencil and eraser, sharpie marker, preferred magnification if needed (optivisor)
