About this Event

Join us on Friday, October 25 at 4 p.m. CT / 5 p.m. ET, for an insightful event hosted by the Clinton Presidential Center: Building a Healthier Generation: The Future of Equitable Health for America’s Children.

This program will feature a dynamic discussion with thought leaders and children’s health experts, including American Heart Association CEO Nancy Brown and Alliance for a Healthier Generation CEO Kathy Higgins. They will explore the evolution of whole child health and health equity, and how collaboration with communities, funders, and leading health organizations can pave the way for a healthier generation.

Whole child health emphasizes a holistic, youth-centered approach to achieving physical, mental, and social well-being. However, many young people in the United States face significant challenges in attaining and maintaining this state, particularly those affected by systemic inequities. Despite these obstacles, there are promising solutions on the horizon. Together, we will delve into these solutions and envision the future of children’s health.

In 2004, President Bill Clinton welcomed the world into the Clinton Presidential Center for the first time. In the 20 years since then, more than five million people have visited the Clinton Center to explore President Clinton’s legacy, participate in educational programming, and experience our diverse array of public programs. Throughout 2024, we’re celebrating 20 years of milestones and memories and highlighting Clinton Center programs and Clinton Foundation partnerships.

For nearly two decades, the Alliance for a Healthier Generation—a national children’s health nonprofit founded by the Clinton Foundation and the American Heart Association—has been at the forefront of driving evidence-based systems change. Their efforts focus on creating healthy environments for children and families at the intersections of whole health, equity, and learning. We invite you to join us for this critical and timely conversation.

ASL interpretation is available during our events.

Clinton Presidential Center Presents is a partnership between the Clinton Foundation, Clinton School of Public Service at the University of Arkansas, and Clinton Presidential Library. This program is held in conjunction with Healthier Generation’s America’s Healthiest Schools Leaders Summit.

About the panelists

Nancy Brown is Chief Executive Officer of the American Heart Association (AHA), which is celebrating its centennial in 2024 and launching its second century of advancing health and hope for everyone, everywhere. Its unwavering mission: To be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives.

Under Nancy’s leadership as CEO since 2008, the AHA has become a global authority on cardiovascular and brain health as well as overall health and well-being, active in more than 100 countries and generating more than $1.2 billion in annual revenue. Forging powerful partnerships – together with more than 40 million volunteers, supporters and staff – Nancy champions equitable health for all and is committed to innovation at the intersection of science, technology and public health on behalf of patients and their families.

Kathy Higgins has served as chief executive officer (CEO) of the Alliance for a Healthier Generation since January 2019. She is a national expert on health care and philanthropy.

Higgins leads Healthier Generation’s team of ~100 staff across the nation working to make healthy lives attainable for all young people. This includes supporting tens of thousands of schools and youth-serving organizations in creating healthier learning environments in all 50 states; helping companies improve business practices to support children’s health; driving collaboration within the business sector to improve access to healthier foods and beverages; and leveraging an online platform to drive action toward healthier futures for children.

Prior to her role at Healthier Generation, Higgins spent over 30 years at Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina. In 2000, Higgins led the launch of the Blue Cross NC Foundation and served as president and CEO, investing over $150M to improve the health of vulnerable populations in North Carolina communities.
