About this Event

Clarion’s Costs and Litigation Funding team, ranked for the third consecutive year by Chambers and Partners as a Band 1 firm for legal costs services, would like to invite you to attend their Clinical Negligence and Serious Injury Masterclass. Aimed at clinical negligence litigators, serious injury litigators, court of protection deputies and any legal professional with an interest in clinical negligence and serious injury claims, our panel of experts will share their knowledge and experience in dealing with such specialist claims.


Agenda

10am Registration, breakfast and networking.

10.25am Welcome and introduction from Clarion.

10.30am Dr Julian P Harriss, Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine and APIL Tier 1 Expert Witness, will consider ‘family matters following traumatic brain injury’. He will discuss the impairments that result from a brain injury, insights into how the brain works and the role of the team around a brain injured person.

11.15am Dr. Abi Cheeseman, Service Lead MCA Service and Clinical Psychologist, Circle Case Management. This presentation will explore the psychological impact of the litigation process for the client and provide a framework to help professionals understand and think about the client’s experience. It will discuss some helpful hints and tips for legal professionals in supporting their clients through the journey.

12pm Andrew McAulay, Partner and Head of the Costs and Litigation Funding team at Clarion and members of the team, will host a ‘Costs Forum’ where they will look at current costs issues facing deputies and litigators.

1.30pm Jemma Morland, Director Solicitor at EMG Solicitors Limited, will talk about some post-conclusion considerations of the financial Deputy. Jemma will cover accounting issues, security reviews, investments, statutory funding and reverse indemnities, with the claimant’s best interests being at the heart of all decisions.

2.15pm Andrew Axon, Barrister at Parklane Plowden, will look at the issue of capacity and the difficulties faced by claimants.

3.00pm Dan Herman, Head of Personal Injury & Head of Leeds Office at Stewarts, will share his top 10 dos and don’ts in catastrophic injury litigation.

3.45pm Q&A.
