Women’s voices are not being heard. It's time for change.
About this Event

The effects of climate change are not equal. We know women are more likely to be affected by climate change than men, yet they make up less than a quarter of leadership positions in climate policy-making. Women’s voices are not being heard. It's time for change.

Join us for an important conversation as we explore how women are unequally affected by climate change, the vital roles they already play in tackling the climate crisis, and why their voices must be central to shaping climate policies. Contributing to the discussion, we will be joined by an exciting panel of scientists, industry experts, academics, and activists, including:

  • Dr Pedi Obani, Associate Professor of Law, University of Bradford – Championing gender-inclusive climate governance.
  • Laura Tobin FRMetS, Meteorologist & TV Presenter – Using her platform to inspire practical green action.
  • Mark Ellis-Jones, Climate Change & Energy Manager, Environment Agency – Leading UK net zero and climate adaptation initiatives.
  • Eddy Quekett, Queer Climate Justice Activist – Exploring the intersections of queer liberation and climate justice.
  • Marta Calore, Just Transition Analyst, Climate Change Committee – Advising Government on inclusive Net Zero policies.
  • Varaidzo (Vee) Kativhu - Girls Education and Youth Empowerment Activist at the United Nations

This interactive event offers opportunities to share your experiences, propose solutions, and engage directly with the panel. It will also contribute to the prestigious UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship research led by Dr Pedi Obani, Associate Professor in the School of Law and Social Sciences, which aims to shape a new framework for addressing these challenges, including increasing women's representation at the highest levels of decision-making.

You can do this by:

  1. Adding your voice to the Digital Globe: Tell us how you’ve been affected by climate change by speaking into a microphone and watching as your words come to life on the digital globe.
  2. Design your own protest placard: Tell us yoursolutions for climate action by designing your own protest-style placard.
  3. Wellness and wheel-weaving: Take a mindful break and contribute to a collaborative art piece by weaving your answers into a creative and artistic display.
  4. Get hands on in the games zone: Play abrand-new, climate justice-inspired board game co-created by the University and local communities, and try out Laura Tobin’s PlayStation game, ‘Climate Station’.

While the focus is on women’s representation in climate governance, all voices and experiences are welcome and valued.
