About this Event

Climate Health Action Talks presents:The Magnitude of All Things: Love, Grief, and Climate Action, with Dr. Ashlee Cunsolo

What can grief for a world on fire teach us about what we love, what is at stake, and what is worth fighting for?

As the effects of climate change intrude into daily life, ecological grief is not an abstract concern but an intimate experience of watching what we love become increasingly vulnerable. But what can grief for a world on fire teach us about what is at stake, and what is worth fighting for?

The Climate Change & Health Hub invites you to a conversation on ecological grief with special guest and leading scholar Dr. Ashlee Cunsolo (Provost and Vice President Academic, Acadia University), in dialogue with climate-mental health researchers Dr. Sherilee Harper (Professor and Canada Research Chair in Climate Change and Health, University of Alberta) and Stephanie Olsen (Refugia Retreats). Together, they will explore how ecological grief can open pathways to resilience, solidarity, and transformation.

Following the discussion, we will screen the National Film Board’s award-winning documentary The Magnitude of All Things, featuring Dr. Cunsolo. The film weaves together personal, environmental, and collective stories of ecological grief. Drawing parallels between the film maker’s experience grappling with her sister’s cancer diagnosis and accelerating environmental loss, the film explores how facing grief can also reveal love, courage, and the drive to act.

Content warning: This film includes discussion of grief, environmental destruction, cancer, and death.

Tickets are free with complementary popcorn and soda provided!
