A benefit for Fossil Free California, which works to end financial support for climate-damaging fossil fuels, featuring Roberta Donnay.
Tonight The Back Room presents the 5th installment of Climate Friday, a quasi-monthly event from which ALL PROCEEDS will go to one of several environmental organizations with ties to the Bay Area - folks who are fighting for our planet! This month's beneficiary is Fossil Free California.
Our special musical guest for the night is the wonderful singer Roberta Donnay. Roberta is a veteran performer, beloved in the Bay Area, and increasingly popular in New York City and points between.
She is best known for her love of the hot swingin' jazz and sultry blues of the 1920's and 30's, and her latest record with her band, the Prohibition Mob, was released to national acclaim. She inhabits a quirky and wonderful stage persona halfway between Bessie Smith and Betty Boop, and is a consummate entertainer.
Also featured tonight is Sam Rudin, the owner/creator of The Back Room. Sam plays some of the most exciting piano you are likely to hear. He can evoke the spirit of Fats Waller, Oscar Peterson, Mose Allison, and Jerry Lee Lewis...sometimes all at the same time. He is also a compelling vocalist whose rough-hewn voice conveys both drama and humor.
Joining Joining Roberta and Sam will be some of the Bay Area's most versatile musicians: Simon Planting (bass), Rob Rhodes (drums), and Danny Caron (guitar).
Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $20 or above. Advance tickets are available at the link below, or you may purchase your tickets at the door the night of the show. Doors open one half hour before show time. We accept cash only or Venmo at the door (ATMs are nearby).
The Back Room is an all-ages, BYOB (for those 21+) space, dedicated to (mostly) acoustic music of all kinds. You are welcome to bring your own food and adult beverages with no additional corkage fee. The venue is ADA accessible. If you need more information or have any questions, please call us: #510-381-1997.
Thank you for your support!
