About this Event

Welcome to Climate Cafe! We are friends and neighbors who get together over coffee and talk climate change and what we can do about it together. Our focus is on the social and organizing perspectives: we go to local events, host movie nights, and volunteer with activist groups and mutual aid.

In this art-exhibition-meets-Climate-Cafe, you’ll have the opportunity to share your emotions about climate change with a caring, concerned community, while being surrounded by artwork at the intersection of biology, technology, and care. Art has the capacity to resonate with our deepest emotions. This purposeful pairing with the exhibition “Embodied Futures & the Ecology of Care” at BioBAT Art Space will make for a unique Climate Cafe experience.

We suggest a $5 donation at the door, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Please bring your own mug or bottle if you want coffee or tea!

WHAT TO EXPECT: We’ll begin with a Climate Cafe in the gallery (introductions, grounding meditation, then open it up to share our climate feelings), followed by a short gallery tour by curator Elena Soterakis. Afterward, feel free to explore the exhibition, meditate with the work, and continue conversations. The gallery is open until 5:00 pm on Saturday. No previous art knowledge or Climate Cafe experience necessary. Join us!

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION: Located at the Brooklyn Army Terminal, BioBAT Art Space is a gallery dedicated to the field of BioArt in which the border between art and science dissolves. In an era where technology and ecological paradigms are in constant flux, Embodied Futures and the Ecology of Care challenges normative views around care, body, and existence. This thought-provoking exhibition brings together art, biology, ethics, and technology to explore the concept of “care” as a universal principle that transcends human-centric viewpoints.
