Join TRCA for a creative, nature-themed program for kids and adults to do together!
About this Event

Cliff Swallows are a dazzling sight at Tommy Thompson Park: since 2018, these charming birds have been observed at the park, collecting mud from the nearby landscape to build their nests, which look like small inverted caves. If you pay close attention, you may even see them peeking out of their nest 'doors'!

Join TRCA educators to learn more about these special aerial insectivores and how their habitat and foraging needs have led them to nest at the park. Then, join us for a relaxing afternoon and create your very own Cliff Swallow cross stitch project to celebrate one of the most charismatic bird species at TTP.

This program is designed as a side-by-side program for an adult and child (age 8+) to learn and do together. Expert guided instruction is provided, and all cross stitch skill levels are welcome! For each adult and young person enrolled, we will provide all materials required for this program, including:

  • AIDA fabric cloth
  • Embroidery floss
  • Wooden hoop
  • Embroidery needles
  • Cliff Swallow pattern

Program participants will receive a copy of the updated Tommy Thompson Park Bird Checklist (5th edition).

This walk is part of TRCA's Spring Bird Festival at Tommy Thompson Park program series.

This event is intended for Ages 8+:

  • Beginner level information
  • Introductory concepts delivered in a hands-on, interactive format
  • Intended audience includes youth and adults
