About this Event
Clematis Street Today: A Model for Main Street Transformation - Florida Planning & Zoning Association's Fall 2025 Regional Forum
Let’s take a walking tour of CityPlace and Clematis Street, the heart of Downtown West Palm Beach, with planner/architects who have been part of the area’s many re-inventions. City Place, an award-winning New Urban development, celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025 and in that time the name changed three times as the 20+ block area transitioned from a lifestyle center for visiting suburbanites to a complete urban quarter serviced by transit with a diverse resident population. We’ll explore an architectural and landscape design history that reflects all of Florida’s: from Mediterranean Revival to playful Postmodern, to today’s high-rise avant-garde. We’ll discuss the varieties of retail, office, housing, cultural facilities, public art, and public spaces the area has seen, talk about what has worked and what hasn’t, get a drink and refreshments in a Clematis Street hot spot, and discuss lessons learned for city planners everywhere.
