In this three-hour workshop led by REFORMA and the forthcoming Schmear Campaign, participants will learn the fundamentals of coil building with clay while working in small groups to explore the role of art and the artist in the movement for abolition. Discussions will focus on identifying the differences between reforms and remedies for communities affected by the carceral state, and the ways organizers can use creative thinking and artistic practices to envision a just future.
The process of creating a vessel made of clay will act as a manifestation of the practice of community organizing, and will be presented in the context of abolishing the U.S. Pr*son and crimmigration systems.
