June 2026/ 4 Day IntensiveGet your PRIMAL ON! Clay Slab Workshop with Diane Collins
Rugged approaches to clay hint at a time before refined anatomical expression. We once lived closer to the earth, more interwoven with nature. We were not beholden to "classical" influences. This class intends to assist its students with practices to "get there" through specified approaches to the subject and material as well as discussion that will reconfigure perception.
I happen to adore exploring raw, expressive approaches to clay in spite of / due to my classical training which in part, involves a historical study of approaches to art over humanity's long journey.
Raw approaches to the subject releases the opportunity for more expressive statements. There is a place for analyzing our subject's form but never at the cost of emotional strength. We who love humanity's earliest creative expression tend to love nature. We too are nature after all. Step into this intensive and tap your instinctual pulse.
This process lends itself to a simplified articulation of the form by necessity not intellectual navigation of anatomy.
