Clay Handbuilding Course 6 x 2.5 h

Clay Handbuilding Course in Atelier Ainoa consists of six 2.5 h lessons on Tuesdays at 18.30 -21 starting on Nov 15.

In the course you learn to make ceramics objects and glaze them yourself. The course will cover an overview of the ceramics process and three basic clay building techniques: pinching, and building with coils and slabs.

The teacher is Sanna Pöyhönen who first put her hands in clay as a teenager in Finland, and after 30 years is still in love with the ceramics as an art medium. She is specialised in guiding students to find their creativity and unique ways to express themselves.

While the clay transforms into a ceramic art piece in the process of sculpting, drying, firing and glazing, the creator also goes through a change in her own mindset. The versatility of clay invites you to search your own path while respecting the surprises on a way – sometimes delightful ones, sometimes incidents you need to adapt to.

Atelier Ainoa is a new ceramics studio in Zaandam, the Netherlands. After several months of renovation an old Huyndai showroom in Penningweg 91 has turned into a spacious, bright art factory that accommodates the ceramic art and sculpting studio, and screenprinting masters of Krijger Vormgave.
