About this Event

Hand-building Experience

Thursday, July 30th | 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Join us for a slower, more intentional approach to working with clay during this 4-hour beginner-friendly hand-building experience. Together, we'll explore foundational techniques, including pinch and coil construction, to create one or two unique ceramic pieces. No prior experience is necessary—this workshop is designed for beginners and anyone looking to reconnect with creativity through the tactile process of clay.

The session unfolds at a relaxed pace, beginning with a brief introduction before settling into the rhythm of making. Midway through the workshop, we'll pause for tea and light refreshments, creating space to connect, reflect, and enjoy the experience before returning to the clay.

Come as you are with a curious mind and open to play.
Leave with 1-2 pieces of art, a renewed sense of presence, and a skill that you can practice anywhere.

Pit Fire Experience

Saturday, August 8th | 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Enjoy the experience of atmospheric firing during an evening gathered around the fire. Together we'll load the kiln using natural materials that create rich, organic markings unique to every piece alongside a potluck BBQ while the fire burns.

The firing is interactive, offering an opportunity for hands-on experience and to witness the transformation of clay through flame, smoke, and minerals. Pieces will cool slowly overnight and will be available for pickup at Shop Atria at a later date.

The location for the pit fire will be shared in a separate email once tickets are purchased.

Hand-Building Only (Beginner Friendly)
Perfect for first-time ceramic artists. Create your pieces during the July 30th workshop, and they will be fired in an electric kiln with a clear glaze, resulting in durable, functional ceramics.

Pit Fire Only (Previous Ceramics Experience Required)
Designed for those with prior ceramics experience who already have bisque-fired work ready to fire. Participants may bring up to two pieces (each up to 5" × 5") to be included in the community pit firing on August 8th. Join us for an evening of loading the kiln, tending the fire, and sharing a potluck BBQ while your work is transformed by flame.

Hand-Building + Pit Fire - Full Experience
Experience the complete journey from forming clay to transforming it with fire. Hand-build your pieces during the July 30th workshop, then return on August 8th to participate in the pit firing and potluck BBQ as your work is transformed through flame into one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces.

To preserve the intimate nature of the experience and provide individualized guidance throughout both events, this experience is limited to 15 participants.

Pit firing creates beautiful carbon trapping and unique surface variations on the clay; however, due to the porous nature of this process, these pieces are intended for decorative purposes only. They should not be used to hold liquids or for food-related purposes.

Pit firing is an unpredictable and delicate process, influenced by many factors including materials, placement, temperature, and the elements. While we take every precaution to support the success of each piece, we cannot guarantee specific outcomes or be responsible for cracks, breakage, or unexpected results that may occur during the firing. Each finished work is a unique expression of the process, shaped by both intention and transformation through fire.

Cancellation Policy

Due to the limited number of participants, advance material preparation, and kiln scheduling required for this experience, all registrations are non-refundable.

If you are unable to attend, your registration may be transferred to another participant by notifying us at [email protected] before the event.

Because this experience includes both the hand-building session and the communal pit firing, missed sessions cannot be rescheduled or refunded.
