Join the Curious Monkey Film Club for an evening of cinematic charm!

We’re inviting curious and passionate film lovers to join us for a screening of Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927), by F.W. Murnau. The first and only film to win the Academy Award for Unique and Artistic Picture at the 1st Academy Awards in 1929.

Come and watch the final statement of the silent era. From a fairytale-like (or not so...) depiction of rural life to a dynamic portrait of the bustling modern city. And a full range of emotions.

Whether you're revisiting this timeless gem or watching it for the first time, you're in for a treat.

About the film:

The simple story of a husband’s betrayal of his wife with a treacherous city girl, the film moves from a fairytale-like depiction of rural life to a dynamic portrait of the bustling modern American city. Explored in elaborate tracking shots by Charles Rocher and Karl Struss’s pioneering camerawork, as when the unnamed Man and Wife first arrive by tram, the city set was one of the most costly yet produced.

Since 2020, Curious Monkey Film Club has been a gathering place for thoughtful film fans with an eye for detail and a love of storytelling. We don’t just watch films - we unpack them, explore them, and ask what they still have to say to us today. Our selections span genres and eras, chosen not by popularity but for their enduring craft and intrigue.

Film Timings:

6:30pm - Arrive early to grab a drink, browse the bookshore and line up for entry.

7:00pm - Entrance opens and film starts promptly. Limited seats. First come, first serve!

Post-film discussion: ~20 minutes

Tickets & Entry:

This is a donation-based event to support the continuation of the Curious Monkey Film Club. Registration is free, but mandatory. The space has limited capacity, registration does not guarantee entry. When the space is full we will not allow more to enter. Please arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Chairs are first come, first serve but we also have plenty of standing and floor seating space available.
