We are Camenae de Cymru from South Wales. Our concert is not just a performance but a journey through the history of classical music. We will showcase the finest works by Gluck, Vivaldi, Vitali, Rossini, Verdi, Brahms, and Saint-Saens, performed by top-tier musicians. Join us and be part of this unique experience, and enjoy the beautiful evening.
The Camenae are Roman water nymphs or deities associated with music, poetry, and healing. Their name is linked to the Latin word ‘carmen’, which means ‘charm, song, poem, magical formula, or prayer’.
The group was established in 2020 by Kristina Bitina, a velvet contralto from Latvia, and Nichola Bojczuk, a poet and compère from Wales. Kristina has performed extensively in Latvia, across Europe, in Scotland, England, and Wales. Camenae de Cymru has presented over 30 concerts featuring professional musicians playing classical music from various periods and genres.
Yuri Savkin, an accomplished musician from Riga, Latvia, is the group’s lead violinist. He serves as the concertmaster of the first violins in the Latvian National Opera and Ballet Orchestra. Yuri has performed in numerous European countries and, with Camenae de Cymru, in England and Wales.
Christopher Williams, a music graduate of Cardiff University, was born in Wales. He leads a busy and diverse professional life as a pianist, composer, conductor, teacher, and arranger. He is assistant director of the BBC National Chorus of Wales and performs as a pianist for the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
