Ace director James Whale expertly balances the drama and the great musical numbers. And the cast couldn’t be bettered: Irene Dunne (from the original national tour), Paul Robeson (from the London cast), Allan Jones (Hollywood’s newest singing sensation), and two legends recreating their original Broadway roles, Helen Morgan and Charles Winninger.
