About this Event

Classic Film Club screens movies made between 1930 and 1960.

Of course, these days you can watch 'old' films on day-time TV. But this is not how they were meant to be seen – not between adverts, telephone calls, cups of tea - and not on a small screen. Even if you have a very big TV, subtle details of screen composition cannot be appreciated.

Between 1930 and 1960, cinema was paramount and moving pictures from around the world were not made to be seen at home, but with an audience on a night out and certainly on a big screen. We are here to address that loss.

A film is a product of its time and place, influenced by stars, politics and wars etc.. Sometimes popular movies of their time have been forgotten, or flops have become cult classics. Classic Film Club is here to address this too.

Members are emailed each month with the next title and a link to a blog (check it out here), which gives some cultural context, background of directors or actors for each film. You can read it - or not - before or after the film. But we have no speeches and Classic Film Club is not a class. We screen at 6pm and some members stay for a chat over a drink afterwards.

Classic Film club is the SECOND Sunday of each month (usually)

5.30 for a 6.00pm screening.

Club Members FREE. To buy membership

Guest Membership £3. Pay at the venue.
