This workshop is for beginners and the more experienced painters alike, or anyone who’s ever been curious about what to do with and how to handle that little instrument.
Working with a palette knife, a clumsy instrument compared to a pencil, can help you to be more free and expressive in your paintings....even if you use a brush.

When, where, and how much?
This class will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025 from 10am to 3pm, which a lunch break from Noon to 1pm, at The Artists Hand Gallery and Espresso Bar, located at 732 Philadelphia Street, Indiana, PA.
The cost is $50 for IAA Members and $65 for non-members.
The deadline to sign up is August 22, 2025. No refunds will be issued after this date. Seats are limited, so please reserve your seat early.

Materials provided:
Two canvas boards
Tabletop easels
Paper towels
Required Materials:
Metal Palette Knife (Not plastic...they offer less control)
Medium (Such as Liquin)
Brushes (Size 10 and 4 - to use in conjunction with the knife)
Sketchbook
Pencil/Eraser
Solvent (Such as Gamsol to clean brushes)
Lunch (Or check out what The Artists Hand has to offer)
Oil Paints Suggested:
Burnt Sienna
Cadmium Yellow
Yellow Ochre
Cadmium Red Medium
Ultramarine Blue
Sap Green
Burnt Umber
Titanium White

Class Description:
In the morning, participants will practice and experiment with palette knife painting while working on a still life.
After lunch, another painting will be done from a landscape reference photo.
The workshop will be conducted in oil paint, preferred, but participants may use acrylic paints.

About Sharon Boykiw:
Sharon Boykiw is an Indiana based painter who works primarily in
oil and watercolors. She has had years of fine art enrollment at
IUP as a non-traditional student. She is a board member with IAA
and she is also associated with the Fox Clark Gallery.
