When a Mustang reaches the 50–year anniversary of their SMU graduation, they ascend to the status of Golden Mustang. Each May, a new class of Golden Mustangs is welcomed during Commencement. The once-in-a-lifetime tradition is called Golden Reunion Weekend. Designed to be an epic celebration and a memorable experience, the weekend includes special campus tours, participation in the Commencement ceremony and the Golden Mustangs pinning ceremony.
