-- CLASS DESCRIPTION --
Here to Play!
I like hanging out in the zone of the nervous system continuum that has "Here to play!" written on it's welcome sign. We'll explore different ways that might help us get there. The idea is that if we fluidly move in the continuum of that zone, we create more space for creativity, physicality, learning, safety, presence... and just being silly & having fun! How does hanging out in the "Here to play!" zone impact technical explorations such as sharing weight, rolling, falling? Ingredients include: voice, stillness, hydrating tissues through movement, some basics of attention such as bones/core, feet/ground, self/skinespher/boundaries, within & beyond...
-- CLASS INSTRUCTOR --
Klaus’ practices include contact & vocal improvisation. Part of why he practices improvisation is to cultivate curiosity over ambition, be with awkwardness, and find joy & playfulness in the moment; some days that works better than others. He is influenced by the work of many wonderful people such as Bobby McFerrin, Ray Chung, Alicia Grayson, Nita Little, Lynda Caesara, Benoît Lachambre, and… his desk job. He likes having plenty of time & space to start slowly and hopes to be able to share some of his excitement for moving in alignment with the felt sense and curiously witnessing what emerges from that with you.
-- MUSIC --
Sometimes the jam will have some pre-recorded music, sometimes we'll make sounds ourselves and sometimes it will be silent. Classically, CI has been done in total silence, and even when there is music, the emphasis is not on how it "moves us".
Do you know of someone proficient in improvising music for movement? Send their info our way.
-- CLOTHING REQUEST --
* Bring 1 or 2 changes of clothes, if you are prone to saturating your clothes with sweat while dancing.
* Wear clothing that will keep your butt, genitals and nipples covered while moving in non-linear and unpredictable ways.
* Don't wear strong fragrances.
-- SPACE ACCESSIBILITY --
The movement space is on the 2nd floor, accessible by the stairs or via an elevator in the back of the building.
Anyone under age 18 is asked to attend with a guardian, and/or email us first to discuss.
