Bring your favorite piece (or two) of worn clothing to class, and Michelle will guide you in a wide variety of techniques to mend and embellish your piece. Embroidery stitches, sashiko mending, patching and darning, and other visible mending will be covered. Michelle will have a wide variety of materials, threads, and yarns available for you to use. Enjoy a relaxing day of handwork while gaining inspiration and new skills. All ages welcome; parent-kid combos encouraged. This class will be limited to 12 students to allow for more personal instruction. Bring your bag lunch and take a break when you need.

MATERIALS: Participants should bring one to two items of clothing to mend/embellish. Feel free to bring your own buttons, threads, and/or sewing kit, but Michelle will also have supplies for you to use. There will be a $5 materials fee.

Immediately after you register, look for a confirmation email and receipt from Eventbrite. In the week preceding the class start date, you will receive another email from [email protected] with more details.

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff continues to be our highest priority and as such, attendees for all Fall Session in-person Athenaeum’s School of the Arts classes and workshops will either need to be vaccinated or test negative for COVID-19. In addition, masks are highly recommended, but not required. See below for details:

Fully vaccinated students must present proof of vaccination to the instructor at the first class meeting. Acceptable proof of vaccination:

1.      the physical COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card issued at the time of vaccination;

2.      a photograph of the COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card; or

3.      a digital vaccination record (which can be obtained at )

Students who do not receive COVID-19 vaccinations due to medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs can attend classes and workshops but will be required to present the negative results of a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of each class meeting. Tests other than PCR, such as a rapid test or over-the-counter test, will not be accepted.

In addition, it is highly recommended, but not required, that all students, faculty, and staff wear masks during class meetings as an additional layer of protection.

Please note that our policy may change as new guidelines and recommendations become available.

Stay safe and be well! And thank you for your continued support of our school.
