Grab a pen and join us as we explore what it takes to turn an idea into an actual book. This class is designed to inspire and empower writers of all stripes and includes an overview of the traditional publishing process and industry (including information about literary agents), as well as a discussion of the benefits and drawbacks of self-publishing. Creative writing prompts throughout the class will help writers "goose the muse" and see their work with fresh eyes. Other highlights include tips on the craft and ideas for marketing and book promotion, as well as Q and A throughout, plus a free review of three double-spaced pages of writing.

MATERIALS: None; handouts will be provided in class.

Immediately after you register, look for a confirmation email and receipt from Eventbrite. In the week preceding the class start date, you will receive another email from [email protected] with more details.

The safety of our students, faculty, and staff continues to be our highest priority and as such, attendees for all Fall Session in-person Athenaeum’s School of the Arts classes and workshops will either need to be vaccinated or test negative for COVID-19. In addition, masks are highly recommended, but not required. See below for details:

Fully vaccinated students must present proof of vaccination to the instructor at the first class meeting. Acceptable proof of vaccination:

1.      the physical COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card issued at the time of vaccination;

2.      a photograph of the COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card; or

3.      a digital vaccination record (which can be obtained at )

Students who do not receive COVID-19 vaccinations due to medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs can attend classes and workshops but will be required to present the negative results of a COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of each class meeting. Tests other than PCR, such as a rapid test or over-the-counter test, will not be accepted.

In addition, it is highly recommended, but not required, that all students, faculty, and staff wear masks during class meetings as an additional layer of protection.

Please note that our policy may change as new guidelines and recommendations become available.

Stay safe and be well! And thank you for your continued support of our school.
