Session topic:
The invention of IVF over 40 years ago and the changing nature of society, and families, has meant that who is a parent has changed. The ground breaking impact of the High Court decision in Masson v Parsons (2019) about parentage continues to reverberate. The Family Law Regulations 2024 (Cth) have made it considerably easier for many children’s parentage to now be presumed under Australian law.
Parentage is relevant for family, estate and migration lawyers, as it has impacts in those areas, and is often misunderstood. The impact of recent cases, and case studies, will be discussed.
